'CIVIL WAR' In Europe: One More City Erupts In Revolt; Clashes As Protesters Defy Curbs

Hundreds of protesters have returned to Lisbon's Rossio Square after police dismantled protest camps in Lisbon and Porto. Demonstrators are demanding affordable rents, more public housing and stronger protections for tenants, as Portugal struggles with a growing housing affordability crisis.

The confrontation has sparked allegations of excessive force, with protesters accusing police of beatings during the camp clearances. Portugal's Public Security Police reported 11 injuries, while organisers disputed the official figures and claimed that 37 people were injured in Porto alone. Police also detained 31 people for disobedience.
