'America Caves, Canada Prevails': Carney Declares Victory, Outs Details of Trump’s Trade Surrender?

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says trade discussions with the United States have intensified slightly, arguing that any progress reflects Washington moving closer to Canada's position. Speaking to reporters on October 26, Carney said his government remained committed to securing a fair agreement, despite continued pressure surrounding negotiations. Asked whether the approaching U.S. midterm elections could influence the Trump administration's approach, Carney said there had been no change in the pressure facing Canada. The discussions come as Ottawa and Washington work toward a deal aimed at easing U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and automobiles, according to Reuters, citing sources on both sides of the border. The outcome could have significant implications for cross-border trade and the economic relationship between the two longtime allies.
