EXPLOSIONS Shake Qeshm Island, MISSILES Fly In Hormuz; Iran's Big Move After New US Warship Deployed

Iran is escalating pressure in the Strait of Hormuz, with the IRGC Navy reportedly launching anti-ship missiles toward vessels being escorted by the US Navy as Washington moves another aircraft carrier toward the Middle East. The reported launches came from the direction of Qeshm Island, with explosions heard across the Strait. If confirmed, the attacks would mark a third consecutive night of Iranian attacks on shipping through the critical waterway. The escalation follows a UKMTO report that a Kuwaiti very large crude carrier was struck by a suspected projectile while transiting the Strait, triggering a major fire. The crew was reported safe and the vessel remained underway. At the same time, the United States is reinforcing its naval presence. The USS Theodore Roosevelt has departed San Diego for the Middle East and is expected to replace the USS George Washington. Washington is seeking to maintain two aircraft carriers in the region, keeping substantial strike and air-defence capabilities close to the Gulf as the confrontation with Iran continues. With Iran increasing pressure on commercial shipping and the US strengthening the naval force protecting vessels, the Strait of Hormuz is once again becoming a central flashpoint in the wider conflict.
