Supporters of Iran have threatened to shut down Basra International Airport after Iraq suspended flights from Tehran. Basra lawmakers have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the government and are seeking to summon senior officials before parliament. The protests come as Iran-backed factions oppose Baghdad's decision amid growing U.S. sanctions on Iran's aviation industry. Tehran, however, says Imam Khomeini International Airport remains fully operational despite the sanctions and continues international flights.
