Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has warned that the Ukraine conflict has “spiralled out of control,” raising concerns over the growing risk of escalation across Europe. Speaking in Presov, Fico said prolonged conflict could force governments to divert resources away from hospitals, energy projects and other domestic priorities toward military preparations.
Fico also questioned what NATO’s Article 5 collective-defence commitment could mean for European countries if a wider conflict were to erupt, asking whether governments could be expected to send thousands of troops into a war without knowing “with whom, why or for what.”
