Record diesel prices threaten to drive up food costs

Surging diesel prices are hitting record highs in Ottawa, raising concerns about the knock-on effects for consumers and local farmers. CTV's Peter Szperling speaks with Cranberry Creek Dairy Farms co-owner Jake Meeks, who says the rising costs are nerve-wracking as his farm prepares to burn up to 100 litres an hour during peak harvest season. Canadians for Affordable Energy president Dan McTeague warns that diesel prices have nearly doubled in the last five months and are a key driver of inflation across North America. Retail diesel prices are expected to reach $2.58 per litre in Ottawa on Saturday, threatening to drive up the cost of everyday products.
