'SHUT CONSULATE...': Putin Strikes Germany, Makes First Move Amid Military Threats; NATO Panics
Russia has ordered Germany’s Consulate General in Saint Petersburg to close following Berlin’s allegations that Russian state structures orchestrated an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The consulate must cease operating by September 18. Moscow has also ordered German Goethe-Institut cultural centres to terminate their activities, extending the confrontation from official diplomacy into language education and cultural exchange. Russia says the measures are retaliation for Germany’s closure of Moscow’s Bonn consulate and the Russian House in Berlin. Moscow denies involvement in the Leipzig incident, while Berlin says investigative and intelligence findings point towards Russian responsibility.
