My Most Intense Day in Afghanistan… Didn’t End How I Expected 🇦🇫
We were in the middle of nowhere on one of Afghanistan's more vulnerable stretches of road when the engine died. With cross-border tensions with Pakistan at breaking point and a missile strike having hit the region just weeks prior, this was the last place I wanted to be stranded.
In this episode, I leave Kabul for Jalalabad, a journey that quickly turned into a test of nerves. After a series of mechanical failures left us vulnerable on the roadside, we eventually made it to the city—only to be met by a different kind of intensity.
From the "gunshots" echoing through the streets to a sudden, violent storm that turned the city into pure chaos, this was one of the most unpredictable days of my travels. But it also taught me that things are often not entirely as they seem and much of it is about perception.
On this journey I didn’t’ expect the response that came from local Afghans. This experience showed me that while the headlines focus on the regime, the people of Afghanistan are defined by a level of hospitality and resilience that is truly humbling.
