The Problem With Godfrey's FBA "Apology"

Over the last few months, comedian Godfrey has been having a back-and-forth with the foundational Black American online community, and on almost every stream in July, it seemed like he was having another meltdown about #FBA. But when he finally sat down for a direct discussion with Dave Anderson, he was forced to face the music.Dave Anderson didn't waste any time breaking down his defenses and holding him accountable. How do you let a few internet trolls push you into your emotions to the point where you diss an entire group and lineage—especially when the very people buying tickets and packing out your comedy shows every weekend across the country are Black Americans? You don't want people painting your own ethnic group with a broad brush, but you had no problem doing it to the people who support your livelihood.When Dave brought up the real divisions across the continent and throughout the diaspora—from the Biafran War to South Africa and the Caribbean—Godfrey had absolutely no comeback. Instead, his side tried to deflect to white supremacy and ask if there’s any hope left for Pan-Africanism. But why should Black Americans be expected to solve the entire diaspora's problems when everybody else is operating in survival mode and looking out for their own self-interest first?Godfrey finally offered an apology, but it leaves people asking serious questions about double standards and whether standing up for "everybody" really means anything at all.
