Russia has launched fresh overnight strikes on Ukraine's Danube port of Izmail, just across the border from NATO member Romania, escalating tensions in the Black Sea region. The attack comes just one day after Ukraine targeted Russia's major grain export hub in Novorossiysk, signaling an intensifying battle over ports, logistics, and critical infrastructure.
According to Ukrainian authorities, the strikes damaged infrastructure and triggered a fire near Izmail. Romania scrambled fighter jets after an aerial target briefly entered its airspace, highlighting growing security concerns along NATO's eastern flank. Meanwhile, Russia claims it also struck tugboats near Mykolaiv, a rail station at Izmail, and a logistics center in Brovary used for military supplies.
Adding to the pressure, a new U.S. intelligence assessment says Ukraine may need at least one year to repair heavily damaged power plants, underscoring the long-term impact of Russia's campaign against Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
