Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has reshuffled the country’s top military leadership, appointing six senior commanders as Tehran rebuilds its wartime command structure. Ahmad Vahidi has been formally appointed IRGC commander and promoted to major general, while Ali Abdollahi becomes chief of staff of Iran’s Armed Forces. Hossein Taeb’s return as Basij commander is also politically significant, placing a veteran intelligence figure back in a powerful operational role. Several key intelligence positions remain vacant, however, following the deaths of senior commanders in U.S.-Israeli strikes. The reshuffle highlights Tehran’s efforts to consolidate military control amid continuing external threats and fears of renewed domestic unrest.
