Union Minister Piyush Goyal accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of making a "false and baseless" allegation by claiming pellet guns were used against student protesters. Goyal said no such firing had taken place and condemned Gandhi's remarks. He also demanded that Gandhi should apologise to Parliament.

Shortly afterwards, Rahul Gandhi addressed a press conference, saying, "I brought a victim of pellet gun firing in front of you. I have given the proof. How can they say I am lying?"
