PUTIN UNVEILS YAK-130M: Russia's New Drone-Hunter Aircraft Nears Deployment Against Ukraine's Drones
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, where he inspected the upgraded Yak-130M aircraft, a platform Russian officials describe as a "full-fledged light frontline combat aircraft." According to materials prepared for the visit, the aircraft features more than 50% upgraded equipment, including a new radar, advanced targeting systems and the ability to employ guided weapons. Russia says the Yak-130M can conduct fighter, assault and strike missions while also targeting heavy-class drones and uncrewed surface vessels. Three prototypes have been assembled, with testing expected to continue through 2028 and deliveries planned to begin in late 2028.
