Senior Advocate Rajesh Dwivedi On CJP's Plea: 'Why Rush To Supreme Court? Go To The High Court'

Rajesh Dwivedi, introduced in the interview as a senior advocate associated with the Supreme Court, argued that the court was within its discretion to reject a plea concerning alleged police action against protesters. He said, "Why rush to Supreme Court? Go to the High Court," maintaining that disputed facts, competing videos, allegations of stone-pelting and claims of police injuries required investigation. Dwivedi said High Courts are constitutional courts capable of hearing writ petitions, protecting liberty, ordering a special investigation team or constituting a committee. He also said Article 32 does not compel the Supreme Court to hear every disputed matter and distinguished the protest from the Nirbhaya protests. Separately, he supported reforms to stop examination paper leaks and corruption while saying political participation was shifting attention away from reforms.
