Andy Burnham says he is going to "lay out a new path for Britain" after winning the Makerfield by-election.
Speaking at a victory rally, he says he wants to see a "Makerfield test at the heart of British politics", meaning that if government policies "don't work for people here, for the places of this constituency, if they don't lift people up, then they shouldn't happen at all".
The Makerfield MP also said this is Labour's last chance for change, but declared: "We are going to take that opportunity and we are going to lay out a new path for Britain."
