Los Angeles firefighters responded to a large commercial building fire Wednesday afternoon at the Lineage cold storage warehouse in the 1400 block of South Los Palos Street in Boyle Heights. The blaze started on the roof of the massive facility and quickly forced crews into defensive mode after initial offensive operations. All units were pulled off the roof and out of the interior as thick black smoke created a towering plume visible for miles across the Los Angeles skyline.
LAFD issued a shelter in place order for nearby areas due to heavy smoke and potential hazardous materials concerns. Residents were told to close windows and doors, turn off air conditioning, and stay inside until further notice. No injuries have been reported so far and the cause remains under investigation. This is the same location that experienced a similar solar panel roof fire back in 2024.

Crews are working from the exterior with ladder pipes while a large response including multiple engines, trucks, and specialized units remains on scene near Union Pacific and Calzona. The dramatic smoke has been visible from downtown Los Angeles and even affected visibility for some aircraft approaching LAX.
