Plans underway to turn Terenure Village car showroom into apartments
Plans are underway to turn a car showroom on a site in the heart of a Dublin village into apartments. The site at the busy traffic junction of Terenure Road West and Templeogue Road is being considered for a building made up of a part-four part-five storey mixed-use block that has 36 apartments within it. The plans also see the construction of a three storey residential block within the centre of the site with nine apartments within. It will include 15 one-bedroom and 30 two-bedroom apartments. The plans would see the demolition of the buildings currently on the site, including the car showroom.A previous planning application for the site was refused permission back in February 2019 due to the scale, height, bulk and massing being "visually intrusive and overbearing" according to planners. It was refused by Dublin City Council and then also on appeal to An Coimisiun Pleanala. The previous application was met with a significant number of objections, with over 150 submissions on the plans. But the applicant said the new application does not "unduly draw attention" on approach of the site like the previous one.It said: "It is noted that the current proposal, as read from the public realm, presents a four-storey building with recessed fifth storey. Upon comparison against the previous proposal, which presented a five-storey building with recessed sixth storey to the public realm, there is an obvious reduction in the height, scale and massing of the development."The physical reduction in size is further complemented by a more restrained design approach with the upper most full level of the currently proposed building mirroring the lower levels so as to not unduly draw attention towards the building’s height and the recessed floor level presenting a less prominent design."An application for the development was declared invalid on February 4. A new application for the development is expected to be submitted shortly.Join our Dublin Live breaking news service on WhatsApp. Click this link to receive your daily dose of Dublin Live content.
