Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) on Thursday announced he will bring the SAVE America Act to the floor next week, a Republican elections bill that President Trump has put tremendous pressure on him to pass. "I can't guarantee an outcome on this legislation," the majority leader said on the floor. "But I can guarantee that we are going to put Democrats on the record, that they'll be forced to defend their outrageous positions on these issues and explain to the American people why commonsense and the Democratic Party have parted ways." The legislation would mandate that people present proof of citizenship when registering to vote and voter ID at the polls in every state. It also in

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) sparred on the floor Thursday over funding for the Homeland Security Department, which has been shut down since Feb. 14 after Congress failed to pass a funding bill. Sen. Schumer said Democrats plan to ask for unanimous consent to approve individual bills reopening FEMA, TSA, the Coast Guard and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency while negotiations continue over potential reforms to immigration enforcement operations. "We don't have to tie that disagreement up and use people at the airports and American citizens as hostages," he said. Sen. Thune called on Democrats to instead vote

China has passed a new ‘ethnic unity’ law which critics warn could in fact worsen the rights of ethnic minorities. Children must now be taught in Mandarin rather than their native language. There are 55 ethnic minority groups in China which represent less than 10 per cent of the population. On paper, the new legislation aims to promote integration between minority groups and China says it’ll help people get jobs in the future. But critics argue that this will cut people off from their culture and language and is an attempt to assimilate them further into the Han ethnic majority. China has long been accused of restricting the rights of ethnic minorities such as Uyghurs, Mongols and Tibetans.

As the US-Israeli war on Iran escalates, desalination plants that make life possible in the Gulf region are becoming dangerously vulnerable targets. In places like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, these facilities provide up to 90% of the water people depend on every day. So, what happens if these lifelines are disrupted? #US #Iran #War #Water #C4News

The US has spent $11.3bn on 5,500 military strikes in just the first six days of the war. President Trump says Iran has been totally destroyed, but Iran is still carrying out low-cost drone and mine attacks towards its neighbours in the Persian Gulf. This small but steady warfare has effectively stopped cargo ships from crossing the vital Strait of Hormuz, which connects Iran and the countries of the gulf to the rest of the world. That means oil and gas can't move, threatening to spike global oil prices and turning the conflict into a grueling war of financial attrition. While very few Americans have died, the US military has a problem: the expensive systems it uses to stop enemy drones cost

The conflict in Lebanon has reached a critical turning point as Israel launches its heaviest bombardment yet, striking the southern suburbs of Beirut and expanding into previously untouched villages. Beyond targeting Hezbollah assets like banks and infrastructure, Israel is now threatening to strike Lebanese government targets as “punishment” for the state’s failure to disarm the militant group. #Lebanon #Israel #WarInIran #C4News

A mother who held a woman captive as a slave inside her "squalid" home for 25 years has been sentenced to 13 years in jail. Amanda Wixon, 56, forced the woman - now in her 40s - to shave her hair, regularly beat her if she didn't complete jobs around the home, and made her live off "scraps" of food. #police #jail #skynews
