'Humiliating Retreat': Iran Strikes American Warships As U.S. Navy's 'SECRET MISSION' Backfires?
An Iranian naval commander claims Tehran detected a secret American military operation 12 to 15 hours before it began, allowing Iranian missile and drone units to relocate before expected US strikes. Admiral Farhad Fattahi also claims Iranian forces retaliated by damaging the USS Abraham Lincoln with a missile and forcing an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer to abandon its mission. According to his account, the destroyer ultimately returned via the Cape of Good Hope, taking the long route around southern Africa. The United States has not confirmed that the Abraham Lincoln was struck or that an American destroyer withdrew because of Iranian action. The claims therefore remain Iran’s account of the encounter. Fattahi is presenting the episode as evidence that Iran can detect US naval operations in advance, preserve its own strike assets and threaten heavily protected American warships operating around the Strait of Hormuz, Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea.
