Voters head to polls in Ottawa | CTV News Ottawa at Five for October 26, 2026

Thousands of Ottawa residents are casting ballots across the city today to elect the capital's next mayor and city council. Nearly 90,000 electors cast ballots early through advance polling and mail-in options, setting an engaged pace as remaining voters make their final choices; shifting cross-border trade tariffs are creating severe operational uncertainty for Canadian wood manufacturers and specialty flooring producers. Forest Products Association of Canada president and CEO Derek Nighbor confirmed that recent U.S. trade updates removed 13 Canadian items from duty lists while imposing levies on 17 others, including select wood products and flooring; and luxury fashion designer George Sully is reflecting on his journey from community housing in Ottawa's west end to the pinnacle of Canada's fashion industry in his new memoir, "Designing in the Dark." CTV's Stefan Keyes walks with Sully through his childhood neighbourhood on Penny Drive in Michele Heights, where the designer recalled navigating poverty and family mental health struggles before building a celebrated career in Toronto.
