Ottawa voters are deciding the city's leadership today as four leading mayoral candidates cast their ballots in a closely watched municipal election. CTV's Leah Larocque reports that incumbent Mayor Mark Sutcliffe is seeking a second term on a platform of stability and fiscal discipline, while 12-year city councillor Jeff Leiper is campaigning on an expansive vision for public transit and neighbourhood livability. Home builder Alex Lawson pitched a property tax freeze and the elimination of paid street parking, while economist Neil Saravanamuttoo proposed creative housing solutions and reduced transit fares. The winning candidate will immediately face pressing municipal hurdles, including an underfunded transit network, deteriorating infrastructure and uniting a council representing 24 distinct wards.
