'ALIVE & KICKING': Kim Jong Un's First Video After Death Rumours, Calls For 'Military Revolution'
Kim Jong Un has appeared before North Korea’s military commanders after rumours about his health and even claims of his death circulated outside the country — and his message focused squarely on strengthening the army. North Korean state media released footage showing Kim addressing a major gathering of army company commanders in Pyongyang. According to KCNA, the meeting was held on October 22 and 23 and was the first military-wide gathering of its kind since the Workers’ Party’s Ninth Congress in February. Kim called for individual companies to be transformed into elite combat units, with greater training, discipline and the ability to operate effectively and independently. He presented the effort as part of what Pyongyang describes as a new “military revolution.” The appearance puts Kim visibly back at the centre of North Korea’s military leadership amid continuing tensions with South Korea and Pyongyang’s broader push to strengthen its conventional, nuclear and ballistic-missile capabilities.
