'GO MELONI GO': Massive Clashes Rock Italy; Fireworks In Milan As Streets Erupt In Protests Again
Riot police and protesters clashed in Italy's Naples as demonstrators took to the streets on Friday against rising living costs and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's government policies. Footage shows riot police pushing protesters back as demonstrators chant 'Meloni resign' and 'Shame on you', while holding banners bearing slogans such as 'Against the high cost of living, high rents, and the climate crisis' and 'Premium taxes, basic salaries'. Meanwhile, around 50 demonstrators gathered outside Milan's San Vittore prison on Friday to show solidarity with people arrested during clashes over rising living costs and public services the previous weekend. Participants criticised police actions and economic conditions, calling for the release of those detained and pledging to continue their demonstrations. The rally followed two days of unrest on October 17 and 18, when protests over rising prices escalated into clashes with police, vandalism and looting in central Milan.
