'VACATE PALESTINE, FREE OUR PRISONERS': Mamdani Issues Big Ultimatum To Netanyahu | Watch
A fresh clash has emerged between New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the detention of Democratic congressional candidate Brad Lander and other activists during the Palestinian olive harvest in the occupied West Bank. Lander, the former New York City Comptroller, said Israeli forces detained him and a group of rabbis and American volunteers while they were harvesting olives alongside Palestinian farmers. He was released after approximately three hours with a warning, while other volunteers were held for longer. Mamdani condemned the detentions, declaring, “Harvesting olives is not illegal. The occupation is,” and called for the release of those still detained. The incident has renewed attention on reported attacks against Palestinian farmers, restrictions on access to farmland and violence surrounding the annual olive harvest, as tensions over Israeli occupation and settlement expansion in the West Bank continue.
