Protests in France have highlighted growing anger over police tactics and deteriorating university conditions. Landry Ngang, deputy mayor of Saint-Denis, near Paris, says he was tear-gassed by police while attempting to de-escalate a street situation. He accuses the French government of relying on police force instead of political solutions.
Meanwhile, students at Paris 8 University are protesting over deteriorating campus facilities, a lack of teachers and inadequate public funding. Many say the situation has left them disillusioned about their future prospects in France.
