US special envoy Tom Barrack tells Al Jazeera that Washington will remain engaged in the Middle East but will no longer try to control it, insisting there are "no blanket guarantees" for allies.
He says regional states must take greater responsibility for their own security, praises Qatar's role as a key intermediary with Iran, and calls for a ceasefire, mutual respect and calmer tensions.
He's been speaking to Al Jazeera's Osama Bin Javaid at the Global Security Forum in Doha.
