Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused the Israel Defense Forces of grossly violating international law and fuelling further escalation in Lebanon. Following talks with Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji in Moscow, Lavrov welcomed direct talks between Israel and Lebanon, mediated by Washington. He called for an early ceasefire and a political settlement, warning that civilians are bearing the brunt of the fighting. Moscow urged implementation of the relevant long-standing UN Security Council resolution.
