Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is accelerating a massive new energy push aimed at reducing Canada’s reliance on the United States as trade tensions with President Donald Trump reshape Ottawa’s economic strategy.

Carney has designated the proposed Pacific Link oil pipeline a project of national interest. The project is designed to move an additional one million barrels of crude per day toward Canada’s Pacific coast and growing Asian markets. Canada currently sends more than 90% of its crude oil exports to the United States.
