'Sheer devastation: '80 percent of Gazan infrastructure has been destroyed' • FRANCE 24 English

For Perspective, we are joined by Jean-Francois Corty, Associate Research Fellow at IRIS, the Institute of International and Strategic Relations. He is also President of Médecins du monde. As Google Maps updates its aerial images, we begin to grasp the utter destruction in Gaza. It’s been estimated that 61 tonnes of rubble  needs to be cleared.  To put this in perspective, that is 20 times the amount of rubble generated in all wars across the world over the last 18 years.  Aid workers are facing the tough task of clearing the ruins, which is estimated to contain up to 10 thousand bodies. Corty warns that "the majority of the population has no access to clean water". All the while, civilians in Gaza are suffering enormously from food insecurity, this as a health crisis quickly unfolds.
