Russian President Vladimir Putin has delivered a pointed message on Russia’s economy and financial system, saying Moscow does not need to “run around the world” seeking financial handouts. Addressing the first session of the State Duma’s 9th convocation in Moscow, Putin said Russia’s economy remains confident and stressed that avoiding mistakes would be crucial.
Putin also congratulated lawmakers following the elections and called for improving the standard and quality of life of Russian citizens. He said the election turnout and results demonstrated what he described as the strength of Russia’s multi-party political system and national unity.
