'BIG VICTORY' FOR IRGC: European Troops Leave Iran's Backyard Just After US Army Exit | Watch

Italy has withdrawn its last troops from Iraq, ending a 12-year military deployment and marking another major step in the winding down of the US-led international coalition’s military presence in the country. Italian forces were deployed as part of the coalition fighting ISIS, with personnel involved in training and supporting Iraqi security forces and operating in Iraq’s Kurdistan region. Germany also completed the withdrawal of its military advisory mission from Iraqi Kurdistan in August, further reducing the European military footprint in the country. The withdrawals come as the United States prepares to complete the withdrawal of its remaining troops from Iraq by September 30. Washington and Baghdad agreed in 2024 to wind down the US-led military mission against ISIS. The US military presence in Iraq has evolved dramatically since the 2003 invasion. At its peak in 2007, more than 170,000 US troops were deployed in the country. In recent years, the remaining force has focused largely on advising and supporting Iraqi security forces. With foreign forces leaving, Baghdad is assuming greater responsibility for Iraq’s security. But the country still faces threats from ISIS remnants, while powerful Iran-backed militias remain armed.
