Iran Ballistic Blitz On US Marine Forces Shakes NATO, Major Naval Power Backs Off? ‘Won’t Fight...’
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas says Operation Aspides needs more warships to protect commercial shipping in the Red Sea from Houthi attacks. Kallas said the mission was originally expected to have at least 10 ships, but currently does not have that number. She said she was pushing EU member states for additional contributions, but had not yet received firm commitments. The EU launched Aspides in 2024 as a defensive mission to protect shipping around the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandeb. But the mission now faces a more dangerous environment as the Houthi campaign becomes increasingly connected to the wider confrontation involving Iran.
