Italy is reportedly relocating a significant portion of its military personnel from Saudi Arabia’s Taif airbase after a missile struck an Italian Eurofighter stationed there. The move is being described as a “restructuring” rather than a full withdrawal, with Italy expected to maintain operations at the base while shifting personnel to a safer facility.
The development comes just days after Italy was reportedly preparing to deploy up to four naval vessels, including frigates, to help protect merchant shipping through the Bab al-Mandab Strait. Rome has also urged European allies to strengthen the EU’s Aspides maritime mission amid growing security risks in the Red Sea.
