Iranian military adviser Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi says the crisis around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait will not return to normal as tensions involving Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Red Sea shipping continue to escalate.
Speaking to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, Safavi said the United States had failed to achieve its objective regarding the Strait of Hormuz and now faces what he called a “new problem” in Bab el-Mandeb. He also said reopening Hormuz depends on Washington accepting Iran’s conditions, insisting the strategic waterway cannot be reopened through U.S. military pressure.
