Merz Suffers Historic State Poll Blow As AfD Advances, Germany's Economic Reform Push Faces Test

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has suffered a major political setback after his CDU recorded its worst-ever result in a state election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, failing to cross the 5% threshold. Despite the losses, Merz has vowed to press ahead with controversial economic reforms, including changes to pensions, taxes, labour laws and welfare. What do these election results mean for Germany's political future and its reform agenda?
