In this video, I explore North Cemetery Manila, one of the most unusual and shocking places in the Philippines and the Largest Cemetery Slum in the World — a cemetery where some Filipino families have built their homes and actually live among the dead.
With my Filipino friends, I enter the cemetery and meet people who have made this place their home. We talk to local residents about living in a graveyard, life inside the cemetery, poverty in Manila, and why some informal settlers in Manila have ended up living between tombs.
To enter the cemetery, we even had to pay for security. Inside, we walk through the narrow paths, climb over graves and tombs, meet local families, and see what everyday life looks like in this unique cemetery slum in Manila. We even share a meal prepared inside one of the tombs.

This is one of the most unexpected sides of Manila, Philippines — far away from the skyscrapers, luxury malls and modern side of the city. For some, what was once only a temporary place to stay has slowly become their home and way of life.
