Italy's Defence Minister Guido Crosetto has called on European nations to overcome national selfishness and unite their defence efforts as security threats intensify across the continent. Speaking alongside Bulgaria's defence minister at Bezmer airbase, Crosetto warned that Europe cannot effectively compete or protect itself by acting alone. He also backed a new European centre to counter hybrid threats, including cyberattacks and disinformation.
Italy and Bulgaria are pushing for greater European defence cooperation as NATO strengthens its eastern flank. Rome is the framework nation for NATO's multinational battlegroup in Bulgaria, while both countries are developing military infrastructure near Yambol.
