A fierce political backlash has erupted in Washington after the Trump administration launched a new “Economic D-Day” sanctions campaign against Iran. U.S. Senator Chris Murphy has slammed the move as “desperate window dressing,” accusing President Donald Trump of trying to cover up what he called a failed military campaign against Tehran. Murphy argued that Iran’s regime remains intact, its missile and drone capabilities survive, and Tehran now has greater leverage over the Strait of Hormuz.
