Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has launched a scathing attack on the United States as America’s national debt crosses the staggering $40 trillion mark. Citing a New York Times report, Araghchi accused Washington of “economic terrorism” and said America’s soaring debt and interest costs are exposing a deeper economic crisis.

Araghchi called the so-called “Economic D-Day” a diversion from America’s own financial problems, warning that doubling down on failed policies could bring further defeat and global economic instability.

The U.S. is reportedly on track to borrow more than $2 trillion this year, while rising interest payments, Iran war spending, tax cuts and tariff-related refunds add further pressure to Washington’s finances.
