South Korea says North Korea may possess 80 to 120 nuclear warheads, a figure significantly higher than US President Donald Trump's recent claim that Pyongyang has 57 nuclear weapons.
South Korean Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-back stressed that the 80–120 estimate comes from private research organisations and cannot be officially confirmed by Seoul. He also reaffirmed that South Korea will not develop its own nuclear weapons or accept the deployment of US tactical nuclear weapons.
The nuclear debate comes as Donald Trump seeks to revive talks with Kim Jong Un, while Kim Yo Jong says North Korea still views the United States as an enemy despite the leaders' reported "excellent" relationship.
