Crowds gathered fast in Dearborn as anti-Islam activist Jake Lang arrived for the planned demonstration outside the Dearborn City Council meeting. Police moved in close while supporters and counter protesters filled the area near the Henry Ford Centennial Library, the relocated site of the meeting. Lang, a Florida-based activist and January 6 participant who was pardoned, has made repeated visits to Dearborn targeting the city’s large Muslim and Arab American community. City officials and Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin urged residents to stay home if they had no official business, warning that outside groups were seeking a reaction. The meeting was shifted from the usual Dearborn Administrative Center to the library for security reasons, with an enhanced presence from local, state, and federal partners.
This follows earlier incidents in Dearborn. Lang was assaulted during an August 2 religious procession while using a bullhorn, leading to arrests. In previous visits he attempted Quran burnings, used bacon in provocations, and spoke at council meetings. Supporters showed up with private security talk while counter groups and residents gathered.
