Iran has announced a major security crackdown after detaining two French diplomats during what it described as a national security investigation into alleged foreign interference. Tehran claimed the diplomats were found during an operation targeting suspected foreign influence networks and said documents seized in the probe pointed to a "large-scale project" aimed at undermining Iran's independence. The diplomats were later handed over to the French ambassador, but France has strongly condemned the incident. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot accused Iran of violating diplomatic immunity, alleging the diplomats were held for nearly four hours and that one was physically assaulted. Iran has denied those allegations.
