Iran War Reshapes Global Aviation | Incheon Overtakes Dubai As World's Busiest International Airport

The war in West Asia is reshaping global aviation, with South Korea's Incheon International Airport emerging as the world's busiest airport for international passenger traffic for the first time.

According to the latest data cited from the Airports Council International, Incheon handled around 38.4 million international passengers during the first six months of 2026, overtaking major global aviation hubs.

The airport has benefited from passengers and airlines looking for alternatives to traditional transit routes through West Asia amid the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran.

Transfer passenger traffic at Incheon reportedly increased by 18% compared with the same period last year, while transfer passengers travelling onward to Europe surged by 63%.

Incheon has also strengthened its position through years of infrastructure expansion. Since opening in 2001, the airport has steadily expanded its facilities and now connects passengers to a large number of international destinations.
