Inside Morocco's Billion Dollar Mosque on the Ocean
Most visitors come to Casablanca to see the Hassan II Mosque.
But standing beside the Atlantic Ocean, I quickly realised this wasn't just another beautiful mosque.
Built partly over the sea, with one of the world's tallest minarets and craftsmanship that took thousands of Moroccan artisans years to complete, it tells a story that goes far beyond architecture.
I travelled to Morocco to discover why King Hassan II chose to build this remarkable mosque over the water, how it became one of the greatest engineering achievements in the Muslim world, and whether it truly deserves its reputation as Africa's most beautiful mosque.
What I found was far more than an iconic landmark. It was a place where faith, Islamic history, extraordinary craftsmanship and the unity of the Ummah come together in a way I'd never experienced before.
Samir Discovers explores hidden Muslim communities, Islamic history, mosques, Muslim culture and the Ummah around the world. In every episode we search for stories that reveal the beauty, diversity and unity of Islam in unexpected places.
