This video presents a modern performance of “Human Nature” as it was arranged during Michael Jackson’s 2009 This Is It rehearsals. Performed by longtime drummer Jonathan “Sugarfoot” Moffett, the drum part reflects the approach used during rehearsals for the concerts that were scheduled to take place at London’s O2 Arena.
Unlike a finished studio production, the original audio heard in this video comes from rehearsal recordings and was never intended as a polished commercial release. As such, certain musical elements, balances, and transitions reflect the informal nature of the rehearsal process. The purpose of this presentation is to document and revisit the arrangement as it existed during the This Is It era.
Jonathan Moffett served as Michael Jackson’s drummer for decades, beginning with the Destiny Tour, Triumph Tour, Victory Tour in 1984 and continuing through the HIStory and This Is It era. Over the years, his interpretation of “Human Nature” evolved alongside the changing live arrangements, making each era distinct.
For this performance, the original drum track has been replaced with a newly recorded drum performance by Jonathan, recreating the feel and spirit of the 2009 rehearsals while allowing viewers to hear his playing with greater clarity.
