Miracle Georgian rescue dog who went missing over a month ago found

A miracle dog rescued in Georgia by a Dublin couple who went missing over a month ago has been found. Klara Poleszuk and her boyfriend Ciaran rescued four abandoned puppies from a run-down building inside a ditch on the outskirts of Georgia's capital Tblisi while travelling around Europe in June. All of the puppies were sick, dehydrated, and malnourished - and sadly, three of the pups passed away. But one, Hailey, survived. The couple adopted her, and - after a long and costly process - managed to bring her over to Dublin just before Christmas. But, after a walk on the evening of January 9, Hailey was startled - and ran away from her new home in Edenmore. Klara previously told Dublin Live she didn't want Hailey's story "to end on the streets, which is the very thing we saved her from". And, thankfully, on Tuesday night, Hailey was finally found and brought home. Klara said they'd known her whereabouts for a few days beforehand. She said: "After a week of sightings, we finally knew Hailey was very close to home - only a two-minute drive away. She had been seen in several nearby gardens, and we worked out that she was hiding in an overgrown ditch area behind them. "It's unowned land that nobody really uses, and it gave her shelter. She kept incredibly low and hidden, but she was there. Once we got the first confirmed sighting and a video of her in one of the gardens, the neighbours were unbelievably kind. "They let us camp out near the ditch, where we left hot, smelly food, her toys, and clothes that smelled like us. We set up cameras and could see her moving around at night scared." On Tuesday night, Klara was in one of the neighbour's gardens with two volunteers cooking hot food, when another neighbour's dogs suddenly started barking. She said: "We assumed they were barking at us. "Then we got a call saying his dogs were barking at another dog in his garden, stuck in the bushes - and he thought it might be Hailey. We were sceptical at first, convinced the dogs were reacting to us, but we went to check anyway. "The homeowner showed us the bush... and there she was. Hailey was sitting inside it, frozen with fear. For about an hour, one volunteer and I sat quietly beside her, speaking softly and not rushing her. "Eventually, she took chicken from my hand. I managed to squeeze myself into the tiny bush, slipped a lead over her, and with the volunteer holding the lead steady, I carefully lifted her out." Hailey was brought straight home and, the moment she walked inside, she recognised everything and everyone. Klara said: "Once she went upstairs, she went straight to her bedroom, found her bed, and started wagging her tail. "She ate her dinner, and now she's snoring beside us in bed, cuddled up with her bear." Klara was quick to thank everyone who shared, searched, checked cameras, gave sightings, and helped in any way. She said: "We had the most incredible group of volunteers who gave up so much of their time, and there is absolutely no way we would have found Hailey without them. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for bringing our baby home. "Hailey went missing on January 9. We had the first real sighting on February 17, and she was safely secured on February 24. She is only 9 months old and survived 46 days alone in the cold and rain. "She is a fighter and has been from the very beginning, after surviving in Georgia as a small puppy, with all the odds against her."
