Two male teenagers killed in Mayo road crash
Two male teenagers have been killed in a road crash in Co Mayo.Three other teenagers were injured in the single-vehicle collision in Ballina on Sunday. Shortly after 4.15am, gardai and emergency services responded to a collision involving a car on a road at Laghtadawannagh.Two of the car’s occupants, both adult males in their late teens, died at the scene. Three other occupants – two boys in their mid-teens and one female in her late teens – were taken by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital.Their injuries are not life-threatening. The coroner has been notified and post-mortem examinations will be conducted.The road remains closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local traffic diversions in place. Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward.The full garda statement reads: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal single-vehicle road traffic collision in Ballina, County Mayo, on Sunday, 1st March 2026. Shortly after 4:15am, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a car on a local road (L5140) at Laghtadawannagh near Ballina."Two of the car’s occupants, both adult males in their late teens, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Three other occupants—two males in their mid teens and one adult female in her late teens —were transported by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital. Their injuries are not life-threatening."The Coroner has been notified and post-mortem examinations will be conducted in due course. The road remains closed to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local traffic diversions currently in place."Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
