Why a staggering 45% of Irish job seekers have lost trust in the hiring process

It seems Irish job seekers may be losing faith in the hiring process – and it’s all because of AI. Greenhouse’s AI in Hiring report, which surveyed 4,100+ candidates, recruiters and hiring managers across Ireland, UK, US, Germany, saw that a whopping 45% of Irish job seekers have lost trust in the hiring process. 43% blame AI directly–rising to 53% at entry-level. Similarly, in the US, 46% of job seekers have lost trust, with 42% blaming AI. It seems Irish jobseekers may be losing faith in the hiring process – and it’s all because of AI. However, 62% of recruiters reported an increased volume, with 71% stating that less than half are worth advancing. 78% of Irish hiring managers have declared they’re more concerned about fraud than a year ago, with this being the highest rate across those surveyed, 4-6 points above the UK/US. Trust between job seekers and recruiters is said to be at an all-time low across Ireland, the US, the UK, and Germany, with 31% of job seekers in Ireland stating AI has shifted bias from humans to algorithms. Ireland seems to show the lowest concern about algorithmic bias, compared to 35% in the US and 32% in the UK. 43% blame AI directly–rising to 53% at entry-level. Discussing the latest challenges targeting jobseekers and hiring managers alike, Daniel Chait, CEO of Greenhouse said: ‘Our latest data shows that neither side is happy with the hiring process right now.  ‘Trust is at an all-time low for both job seekers and recruiters. Candidates are doing whatever they can to break through the noise, while talent acquisition teams are drowning in so many applications they’re looking for ways to sort through what’s real and what’s not. ‘Unfortunately, although all sides are just trying to do their best, our survey shows that the collective result is worse for everyone. Job seekers use AI to apply to more and more jobs, while employers use it to filter candidates back out again. It’s an AI doom loop that’s getting worse, not better. Our vision is to build AI for hiring that is more human and that helps solve systemic problems on both sides.’
