Olympics Approved Crocodile River for Brisbane Rowing Events | WION Podcast
Australia’s Fitzroy River, home to more than five hundred crocodiles, has been approved to host Olympic and Paralympic rowing and canoeing events at the Brisbane Games. An independent assessment found the venue could deliver a safe, fair and consistent field of play despite concerns over strong currents. Officials said crocodiles were not the main issue, with testing focused more on weather, water levels and flood risk before and during the Games. The river is already used for regattas, school championships and national training camps, with crocodile sighting plans already in place. In this episode, we examine how a crocodile habitat passed the Olympic test and what it means for Brisbane’s future Games.
