'School Streets' pilot project closes road to cars

A new pilot project is closing a section of road behind Trille des Bois Elementary School in Vanier to traffic twice a week to improve student safety during drop-off. CTV's Katie Griffin reports that Alice Street will be closed from St. Charles Street to Marier Avenue for 20 minutes on Tuesday and Thursday mornings until December. Parents and school council president Michelle Morra says drop-offs can become chaotic on the narrow, congested streets. The city partnered with EnviroCentre to manage the car-free zone using volunteers, and area councillor Stéphanie Plante notes that a second pilot project will begin at Hopewell Avenue Public School in October.
